We also use rich butters and other rich oils to enhance the moisturizing capabilities of the soap, butters and oils like cocoa butter, shea butter mango butter, honey, aloe vera, castor oil, lanolin oil, Essential oils, natural herbs, safe fragrance oils add to the soap's fragrance. Natural herb powders, herbs and clays add color to our soap; and botanicals, and other natural ingredients add texture and exfoliants. How Skin Absorption Actually Works

Our skin is designed as a protective barrier, not a sponge. The outer layer, the stratum corneum, is made of densely packed cells and lipids that slow down how fast substances can move inside the body.

Scientists study “dermal absorption” by applying ingredients to skin in controlled tests, then measuring how much passes through over 24 hours or more. Rinse‑Off vs Leave‑On Products

Studies comparing traditional soaps and synthetic detergent bars show they can have different effects on things like skin roughness, irritation, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL), a measure of how much water escapes through the skin.

Excessively harsh cleansers can temporarily overwhelm the skin’s natural buffering and damage the barrier, leading to dryness and irritation.

More recent research suggests that well‑formulated natural soaps can be effective cleansers while being less toxic to skin cells and more environmentally friendly than some synthetic detergents.

Where Handcrafted Soap Fits In

Handcrafted soaps made with plant oils and gentle formulations are designed to cleanse without aggressively stripping the skin.

When you use a natural olive‑oil or goat‑milk bar, most of the lather is rinsed away, but the way it treats the skin’s surface matters: pH, the presence of unsaponified oils, and added ingredients (like clays or botanicals) all influence feel, mildness, and whether skin stays comfortable after washing.

Some handmade soaps intentionally retain a small amount of superfat (extra oil) and use emollient ingredients that can help reduce dryness after use and support a smoother skin texture, which indirectly improves how well your skin can hold moisture and interact with leave‑on products later.

I hear a lot of people say that soap is a wash-off product, and rightly so. But as a newbie, I’m beginning to second guess myself as to why I fell in love with handmade soaps in the first place. Why then do we use natural additives (turmeric, oats, neem, milk etc) that we say are beneficial? If the process of saponification kills the beneficial nutrients/ vitamins that we look for in natural ingredients, why then is the point of making soap the way we do? I just need clarification.
